Quote of the Week
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
— Lao Tzu
Let’s Talk About This
Sometimes the hardest part of any journey is simply beginning.
We look at the bigger picture, set huge goals, focus on the end result, and suddenly the dream, the project, the healing, or the life change feels overwhelming before we’ve even started.
A conversation begins in our minds...
“I’ll begin when I have more time.”
“When I feel more confident.”
“When I know exactly what I’m doing.”
But often, that perfect moment never comes.
Perfection has a way of stopping us in our tracks before we’ve even taken the first step. Meanwhile, the ideas, dreams, and creative sparks quietly wait in the background.
The truth is, no one ever became skilled, confident, or successful without first trying, learning, and failing many many times along the way.
What This Really Means
Lao Tzu’s words remind us that meaningful change rarely happens all at once.
From small beginnings, big things grow.
One first stitch.
One wobbly brushstroke.
One lesson learned.
One brave little attempt.
As wisely said by Confucius:
“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”
And echoed the same truth beautifully by Martin Luther King Jr:
“If you can’t fly then run,
if you can’t run then walk,
if you can’t walk then crawl,
but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
Progress doesn’t need to look impressive to matter.
It simply needs to continue.
Where Craft Fits In
Craft teaches this lesson better than almost anything else.
That beautiful quilt didn’t appear on the first attempt.
That stunning portrait once began as uncertain pencil lines.
No handmade piece starts perfectly finished.
Everything begins with one small step:
• Choosing the fabric
• Threading the needle
• Sketching the idea
• Picking up the tools again after a long break
And often, once our hands begin moving, something inside us begins shifting too.
Our breathing slows.
Our thoughts quieten.
The pressure softens for a little while.
That’s the quiet power of creativity.
Not perfection.
Not productivity.
Just movement.
Just beginning.
Something to Try This Week
• Start with something small you’ve been putting off
• Spend just 10 quiet minutes creating
• Pick up an unfinished project
• Allow yourself to begin imperfectly
• Focus only on the next small step — not the whole journey
A Gentle Reminder From Our Craft Table 🩵
You do not have to have everything figured out before you begin.
You are allowed to learn as you go.
You are allowed to take slow steps.
You are allowed to begin exactly where you are.
At Crafty Connections, every handmade piece starts with one small action — and grows from there.
That’s the beauty of handmade.
Not instant perfection.
But patience, persistence, and the courage to begin.
💌 If this resonated with you, I’d genuinely love to hear from you.
What’s one small step you could take this week — creatively or personally?
